According to a latest study, an innovative approach in a blood-based precision medicine test - can be helpful in detecting early symptoms of heart disease in older outpatients. The research published in journal of the American Geriatrics Society study, revealed that the blood-based precision medicine test incorporating age, sex and gene expression score (ASGES) scores could prove to be a useful tool in evaluating older outpatients with symptoms suggestive of obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD).
For the study, 176 stable, non-acute outpatients presenting with symptoms suggestive of obstructive CAD who were aged 65 and older were evaluated. Their scores were then examined closely by the researchers. The participants with low scores with low likelihood of obstructive CAD were referred for further evaluation at low rates. On the other hand, those who happen to have higher scores had higher rates of referral to cardiology and advanced cardiovascular tests.
The findings further revealed that after an year of follow-up, the cases of major cardiovascular ailments was higher in participants with high ASGES than in those with low ASGES Heart is inarguably the most important organ of the body.
