India Women’s captain Mithali Raj, senior player Jhulan Goswami, Smriti Mandhana, Poonam Raut, Harmanpreet Kaur, Veda Krishnamurthy and Deepti Sharma were part of the popular TV quiz show, ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 9’, hosted by Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan on Friday. The Indian Women cricketers were a part of a new segment on the show, titled ‘Nayi Chaah Nahi Raah’.
The Indian Women cricketers have been at the cynosure of all attention ever since they won many a heart in the ICC Women’s World Cup played in England earlier this year. Following their splendid show in the tournament, Mithali and the Indian players have been felicitated all around the country and Bachchan was the latest to have joined the list.
Amitabh Bachchan gave a warm welcome to Mithali, Harmanpreet, Jhulan, Mandhana, Sharma in the new segment on his ever-popular show, which began by inviting participants from the previous day. The Indian Women cricketers — with their coach Tushar Arothe in special attendance — were given a grand welcome on the ‘hot seat’ after the previous contestant, Neha Kumari won Rs 25 lakh.

Manish Pandey has said players will take time to get used to new positions after Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli announced experiments would be the norm for the ODI team heading into the 2019 World Cup.
India batsman Manish Pandey believes players will take time to get used to new positions and roles after skipper Virat Kohli declared experiments would be the norm for the ODI squad heading into the 2019 World Cup.
Pandey ended a 10-month wait to play again for India with a fluent, unbeaten 50 batting at No 6, sharing a 101-run partnership with MS Dhoni, who finished 49 not out.
The India A skipper, who missed the ICC Champions Trophy in June due to injury, got to play only after the visitors had wrapped up the series against Sri Lanka 3-0.
Pandey, 27, had earlier in the series spoken how tough it was for him to get used to the slot after batting at No 4 earlier for India as well as for Karnataka. On Thursday, he admitted his Karnataka teammate KL Rahul, a big hit as an opener, was finding it tough to get used to his new role as an ODI middle-order batsman.
“Rahul is used to batting in the top order and the game is a little different there. It is on him to come out of this situation again, he has to understand maybe how the middle overs go because he always opens the batting and suddenly you are batting after 30 overs.
“You need some time. Maybe as many more matches guys play, he will get used to it. Even I was feeling difficult batting at No 6; batting used to come after 40 overs and I was used to batting at No 4 when batting comes after 25 overs.
“So it always takes time. And the faster you learn the better batsman you become. I think that’s what I have done.”
The prolific scorer for Karnataka and India, who hit an ODI century in his debut series against Australia in early 2016, is clear what he needs to do.
“I have to be ready for whatever spot I get. So, if I get a chance then I need to get some runs and cement that spot. And then if you keep performing and you keep playing better, maybe you come one up in the order. So that will be my goal -- to fix a spot or two for myself and stay there and win games for India.”
India rode on blistering centuries by Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to thrash Sri Lanka by 168 runs in the fourth One-Day International on Thursday for a 4-0 lead in the five-match series.
The batsmen shared 219 runs for the second wicket off just 168 balls to help India post an imposing 375 for five after the visitors elected to bat at the R. Premadasa stadium.
Sri Lanka barely put up a fight after losing four early wickets for 68 runs, folding up for 207 in 42.4 overs.
Angelo Mathews top-scored with 70 in what was Sri Lanka’s biggest defeat in terms of runs in an ODI on home soil.
“We spoke about not being complacent at any stage,” said Kohli, named man-of-the-match.
“It was a clinical performance today. We wanted to bat first because we hadn’t batted first in the three games. The surface was amazing. It was a good toss to win.”
Debutant Shardul Thakur gave India the first breakthrough when he had opener Niroshan Dickwella caught by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, playing his 300th one-day-international.
The batsman was given not-out by the on-field umpire but India decided to review the decision and TV replays showed the ball had brushed the bat.
Sri Lanka could never really recover from the early blow and failed to build the partnerships which were needed to chase the imposing target.
The highlight of the game was the partnership between Kohli and Rohit.
Kohli hit 17 fours and two sixes in his enthralling 131-run knock that came off just 96 balls.
Rohit (104) hammered 11 fours and three sixes in an equally entertaining 88-ball innings, his second century in a row.
Kohli was dismissed by Sri Lanka’s stand-in captain Lasith Malinga who completed 300 ODI wickets, the fourth Sri Lankan to achieve the feat.
“300th wicket is just a number. I’m happy (for this record) but we lost which is very unfortunate,” said Malinga.
“It’s not been easy.... Young players want to perform well, they’re all excited but we haven’t been able to come up with our best.
“They need the experience. Hopefully they will do their best over the next few months.”
The Indians were off to a flying start on Thursday, thanks to Kohli and Rohit.
Kohli reached his 29th ODI century off just 76 balls with a boundary off Milinda Siriwardana to the square-leg fence as he toyed with the bowling attack.
Applying the brakes
Mathews put the brakes on the scoring when he dismissed Hardik Pandya (19) and Rohit Sharma off consecutive balls.
Dhoni, who made 49 not out, became only the sixth Indian and the second wicketkeeper-batsman after Kumar Sangakkara to play 300 ODIs. He also shared 101 runs with Manish Pandey (50 not out) after the visitors were reduced to 274 for five.
Butter-fingered Sri Lanka dropped easy catches and misfielded often to allow some easy runs to the Indians.
The fifth and final one-dayer will be played in Colombo on Sunday.
