NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party chief spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj on Sunday alleged that the BJP candidate for the upcoming Rajendra Nagar bypoll operates three hotels in unauthorised buildings.

One of the hotels mentioned in Bhatia’s candidate affidavit is run by his family members.

He alleged that the party that championed anti-encroachment drives had fielded an offender of illegal construction.

Bharadwaj referred to a newspaper article that mentioned that three hotels operated by BJP candidate Rajesh Bhatia and his family members are unauthorised buildings.

BJP MLA and in-charge of the Rajendra Nagar bypolls, Ajay Mahawar, refuted the allegation, saying AAP is "shocked" by the party’s nomination of a popular local leader and is diverting people's attention by making unrestrained allegations.

He said AAP has repeated a concocted allegation that was made by Congress in 2012, after which Bhatia won the election. He said the hotel mentioned by Bhardwaj was closed by Bhatia more than two years ago. He also said that there were no irregularities in it.
