Academic of medieval history at St. Stephen's College, Tasneem Suhrawardy, passes away.

NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, Tasneem Suhrawardy, a renowned Indian scholar of medieval history who was a professor at Delhi University's St. Stephen's College, passed away at the Fortis Hospital in Gurugram. She was fifty-eight.

Suhrawardy had a heart arrest in the morning and died as a result. She had been sick for a while and was receiving hospital treatment for pneumonia.

In 1986, Suhrawardy received his history degree with honors from St. Stephen's College.

She finished her doctoral work on "Central Asians in Mughal India: Migration, Settlement, and Impact on North Indian Culture" at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in 2004.

She was invited to lecture as a guest teacher at esteemed American and Indian educational institutions in addition to her position at St. Stephen's College.

Suhrawardy was well-known in academia for her expertise in Indian medieval history and served as an associate professor at St. Stephen's College.

She was the daughter of the late Shahida Suhrawardy and Syed Saeedul Haq.

Reported lawyer Anis Suhrawardy, her brother, passed away in 2012.

Her sister, senior journalist Nilofar Suhrawardy, and other family members survive her.

Students and colleagues called her death a significant loss to the academic community.
