Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a crucial review meeting today at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to assess the preparedness and implementation progress of the three newly introduced criminal laws set to replace the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and Indian Evidence Act.

The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Lt Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, and Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, signaling the central government’s focus on close coordination with state and law enforcement authorities for a smooth transition.

The three new legislations — the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam — aim to modernize India’s criminal justice system, focusing on victim-centric reforms, faster trials, and greater use of technology in investigations.

Sources indicate the meeting reviewed infrastructure readiness, police and judicial training modules, digital systems integration, and awareness campaigns ahead of the rollout.

With the reforms poised to come into effect later this year, today’s meeting marks a key milestone in their operational execution.
