Assam's Charaideo Moidams Achieve UNESCO World Heritage Status: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Praises PM Modi and Local Contributions

 Delhi: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has announced with pride that Assam’s Charaideo Moidams have been officially added to the UNESCO World Heritage list as 'Cultural Property.' This prestigious recognition marks a significant milestone for the region and highlights its rich historical and cultural heritage.

Sonowal expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating, "It is a big recognition for us. I thank PM Modi on behalf of the people of North East." He emphasized that the inclusion of Charaideo Moidams on the UNESCO list underscores the central government's commitment to supporting Assam and the broader North-East region.

The Charaideo Moidams are ancient burial mounds built by the Ahom dynasty, which ruled Assam for nearly six centuries. Their recognition by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site is a testament to their historical significance and cultural value. Sonowal's remarks reflect the sentiment of pride and appreciation within the local community and the broader region.

In his statement, Sonowal also extended his thanks to the Ahom community and the Assam government for their efforts in preserving and promoting this unique heritage. "This recognition proves that PM Modi continues to serve Assam and North-East, and as a result, we got a chance to gain recognition across the world," he added.

The inclusion of the Charaideo Moidams in the UNESCO World Heritage list not only highlights the cultural richness of Assam but also enhances global awareness of the region's historical significance.
