Ahead of the introduction of the Waqf Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha today, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva expressed disappointment over the opposition’s stance against the bill, emphasizing that it is intended to benefit marginalized Muslim communities and support their development. Sachdeva’s remarks come as the bill, which has been a subject of intense political debate, is set to be discussed in Parliament.

"I feel pity on the mentality of those who are opposing this bill," Sachdeva said, taking aim at critics who have raised concerns about the proposed legislation. He argued that the Waqf Amendment Bill is a progressive step that will work towards the advancement of communities whose rights have long been overlooked. "The Waqf (Amendment) Bill is going to work towards the progress of all those people whose rights have been snatched away," he added.

Sachdeva noted that the bill was first introduced in the House in August of last year, after which it was sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for further scrutiny. He emphasized that the bill has undergone a thorough review, with people from across India providing their suggestions to the JPC.

Pointing out that the bill aims to uplift poor Muslims and ensure their development, Sachdeva questioned why the opposition continues to object to it. "If our poor Muslim brothers and sisters benefit from this bill, and their development happens, then I don't understand what these opposition leaders have to object to," he remarked, suggesting that the bill has widespread support among those it is intended to help.

Sachdeva’s comments reflect the BJP’s stance that the Waqf Amendment Bill is a step towards transparency, equity, and the welfare of marginalized communities, while questioning the motives behind the opposition’s objections.
