BJP Leader Shehzad Poonawalla Criticizes Mamata Banerjee's Government Over Handling of Sandeep Ghosh

BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla has sharply criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her administration, accusing them of insincerity and mismanagement in a recent controversy involving Sandeep Ghosh.

In a press statement today, Poonawalla condemned what he described as "crocodile tears" from Banerjee, asserting that her actions have demonstrated a pattern of ruthlessness rather than accountability. His comments were in response to the West Bengal government's decision to reappoint Ghosh as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) despite recent controversies surrounding his tenure.

“Today, Mamata Banerjee’s crocodile tears mean nothing because her actions have only been infused with ruthlessness,” Poonawalla said. “Why has her government rewarded Sandeep Ghosh by making him an OSD? He was reinstated in just four hours, and instead of facing consequences, he has been given a special posting.”

Poonawalla’s remarks come in the wake of criticism directed at the Bengal government following a recent Supreme Court ruling. The court had expressed severe disapproval over the delay in filing a First Information Report (FIR), describing the discrepancies in the case as unprecedented in its 30 years of judicial history.

In addition, Poonawalla highlighted a recent incident in court involving Kapil Sibal, the lawyer representing the Bengal government. “We saw Kapil Sibal laughing in court, despite the seriousness of the matter. The lawyers and judges had to remind him that this is not a matter for laughter,” Poonawalla added, pointing to this as indicative of the government's lack of seriousness in addressing the issue.

The Supreme Court's reprimand and the subsequent fallout have intensified scrutiny on Banerjee’s administration, with critics arguing that the handling of the case undermines the rule of law and accountability. Poonawalla's comments reflect a broader BJP strategy to challenge the credibility of the West Bengal government and its leaders.

As the controversy continues to unfold, the West Bengal government faces mounting pressure to address these issues transparently and take appropriate actions to restore public trust.
