BJP Leader Tarun Chugh Criticizes Congress-National Conference Alliance Ahead of J&K Assembly Polls

BJP leader Tarun Chugh has launched a scathing critique of the alliance between the Congress party and the National Conference (NC) in the lead-up to the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Assembly elections. Chugh’s comments, delivered at a press conference, questioned Congress’s stance on key issues and accused the party of supporting a divisive agenda.

Chugh's remarks centered on Congress’s position regarding Article 370 and Article 35A, which were abrogated by the BJP government in 2019. He challenged Congress to clarify its position on these provisions, which were pivotal in Jammu and Kashmir’s political landscape. “Congress needs to answer what its stance is on Article 370 and Article 35A,” Chugh asserted. “The country wants to know whether Congress intends to take Jammu and Kashmir back to the era of ‘2 Prime Ministers, 2 flags, 2 constitutions.’ Can any state move towards having two flags?”

The BJP leader further criticized the alliance for allegedly supporting agendas contrary to national interests. “Does the Congress Party support the National Conference’s agenda of engaging with Pakistan rather than addressing the concerns of the youth in India?” Chugh asked. He accused Congress of playing a “dirty game” and of being aligned with the National Conference’s separatist agenda.

Chugh also pointed to specific elements of the National Conference’s manifesto, which reportedly includes provisions for the release of separatists currently in jail. “It is unfortunate that the Abdullah family is advocating for the release of those who are in jail,” he said. “The Gandhi family seems to be standing with them, which is deeply troubling.”

The BJP leader’s comments reflect ongoing tensions and competitive dynamics as the J&K Assembly elections approach. By challenging the Congress-NC alliance on these issues, Chugh aims to highlight what he sees as significant differences in policy and approach, further polarizing the political discourse in the region.

The remarks come as political parties intensify their campaigns, each seeking to leverage their positions on Jammu and Kashmir’s complex issues to garner voter support. As the election period progresses, the discourse around Article 370, national unity, and engagement with separatist elements will continue to be pivotal in shaping the electoral landscape.
