BJP MP Raises Alarm Over Drug Seizures, Questions Congress Connections

  • Oct. 3, 2024, 1:49 p.m.

BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi highlighted a significant drug bust in Delhi, where authorities seized narcotics worth an estimated Rs 5,600 crores. Trivedi contrasted this seizure with the period of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, asserting that only Rs 768 crores worth of drugs were confiscated from 2006 to 2013.

“The BJP government from 2014 to 2022 has seized drugs valued at Rs 22,000 crores,” Trivedi emphasized, underscoring what he described as a concerted effort to combat drug trafficking. However, he didn’t stop there. Trivedi specifically targeted Tushar Goyal, the chief of the Indian Youth Congress RTI Cell, who he alleged is the kingpin of a major drug syndicate.

“What relations does the Congress party have with him?” Trivedi questioned, raising concerns about the potential use of drug money in political campaigns. “Was this money being used in elections by the Congress party? Do some leaders of Congress have any arrangements with drug peddlers?”

Trivedi's accusations extend to the Hooda family, a prominent political family in Haryana, pressing them to clarify their connections to Goyal. “Congress, especially the Hooda family, should reply: what is your connection with Tushar Goyal?” he demanded.

The BJP’s allegations have sparked a renewed debate over drug abuse and political accountability in India. As the party prepares for upcoming elections, it is likely to use this narrative to question the opposition’s integrity and commitment to tackling drug-related issues.

Congress has yet to respond publicly to these accusations. However, the party's leaders have historically dismissed such claims as political stunts aimed at deflecting attention from pressing governance issues.

As the situation develops, the focus remains on the implications of these allegations for both the BJP and Congress, particularly in the context of India’s ongoing battle against drug trafficking and addiction.
