In a strongly worded statement, BJP Member of Parliament Ravi Shankar Prasad has denounced recent incidents of violence targeting political figures, citing an assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump and expressing concerns over similar threats faced by Indian leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing the media, Prasad highlighted the gravity of the situation where democratic dissent has escalated into violent acts against politicians. "An assassination attempt was made on former President Donald Trump. It's by the grace of God that he remained unharmed, and swift action was taken against the perpetrator," Prasad stated, underscoring the need to uphold democratic values without resorting to violence.

Prasad referenced an article by former Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Vikram Singh, published in a leading newspaper, which raised apprehensions about the safety of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Singh's article reportedly cautioned against inflammatory rhetoric that could potentially incite violence against political leaders.

"There is evidence to suggest that such rhetoric can lead to tragic consequences. We have seen incidents like the 2013 attack in Patna where several lives were lost during an event attended by Prime Minister Modi," Prasad recalled, pointing to past incidents where political events have been marred by violence.

The BJP MP also criticized opposition leader Rahul Gandhi for what he described as irresponsible statements that could contribute to a charged political atmosphere. "In a democracy, dissent is a right. However, there must be decorum so that politicians are not targeted amidst violent excitement," Prasad emphasized, calling for responsible political conduct and constructive dialogue.

Prasad's remarks come against the backdrop of heightened political tensions and security concerns surrounding top leaders in India. The statement reflects growing apprehensions within the BJP regarding the safety of political figures amidst an increasingly polarized political climate.

As the nation prepares for upcoming political transitions, discussions on maintaining civility in political discourse and ensuring the security of elected officials are expected to remain at the forefront of public and governmental agendas.

The BJP MP concluded by urging all political parties and stakeholders to prioritize dialogue over confrontation and to uphold the sanctity of democratic principles in fostering a peaceful and inclusive political environment.

The concerns raised by Ravi Shankar Prasad underscore broader challenges facing India's democratic institutions and the imperative for responsible governance and political discourse in safeguarding public safety and democratic norms.
