BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi Criticizes Rahul Gandhi Over Congress's Historical Stance on Caste Issues

BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi has launched a critique of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, referencing historical positions taken by the party on caste-related issues. Speaking at a press conference in Delhi, Trivedi invoked past statements by Rahul Gandhi's father, Rajeev Gandhi, to underscore his argument.

Trivedi pointed out that Rajeev Gandhi had previously opposed the Mandal Commission and expressed skepticism about caste-based reservations. “I want to ask Rahul Gandhi that in the Parliament, Rajeev Gandhi opposed the Mandal Commission and said that the Congress does not believe in caste. He also called it a communal award from the British time,” Trivedi stated. He suggested that the Congress party had historically distanced itself from caste-based politics, a position Rajeev Gandhi had articulated during his tenure.

Trivedi further criticized Rahul Gandhi's current stance, using a historical slogan from Indira Gandhi's era to emphasize his point. “There used to be a slogan, 'Jaat pe, na paat pe, Indira ji ki baat pe, Mohar lagegi hath pe.' What did Rahul Gandhi bring this to? 'Aaj purkhon ki baat ko rakh ke laat pe, party le aaye footpath pe,'” Trivedi said. This comparison, Trivedi argued, highlights a shift from the Congress party's earlier positions on caste and political strategies.

The comments reflect ongoing tensions between the BJP and Congress over issues of caste and political legacy. Trivedi’s remarks aim to highlight perceived inconsistencies in the Congress party’s historical and current positions on caste, questioning the credibility of Rahul Gandhi's leadership in this context.
