Delhi — BJP Member of Parliament Sudhanshu Trivedi has raised pointed questions regarding the opposition INDIA alliance's approach to caste census, urging them to undertake such surveys in states under their governance. During a press briefing, Trivedi challenged the alliance to conduct caste censuses in Himachal Pradesh, Telangana, Punjab, and West Bengal, where they hold power.

"Why are they not conducting a caste census in states like Himachal Pradesh, Telangana, Punjab, and West Bengal, where they are in power?" Trivedi asked, highlighting what he perceives as a lack of action on this issue by the opposition parties.

Trivedi also addressed the situation in Karnataka, where a caste survey has already been completed but the results have not been made public. He criticized the Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister’s stance on the issue, who has reportedly warned of potential consequences if the data is disclosed.

"The Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister has even threatened that disclosing the data might lead to repercussions. This raises serious questions about transparency and the intent behind conducting these surveys," Trivedi asserted.

The call for a caste census has been a topic of significant debate in Indian politics, with various parties voicing support or opposition based on their perspectives and political strategies. Trivedi's remarks come amid ongoing discussions about the importance of caste data for policymaking and equitable resource distribution.

The BJP has been vocal about its demand for a comprehensive caste census, arguing that it is essential for formulating inclusive policies and addressing social inequalities. In contrast, opposition parties have often cited concerns about the potential misuse of caste data and the implications of its release.

As the political discourse continues, Trivedi's comments reflect the broader contention over the need for and management of caste-related data in India. The response from the INDIA alliance and the subsequent actions in the states under their control will likely be closely watched as the debate evolves.
