BJP MP Tejasvi Surya Criticizes DMK’s Political Strategy Ahead of 2026 Tamil Nadu Elections

BJP Member of Parliament Tejasvi Surya has sharply criticized the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party for its stance on issues such as delimitation and the alleged imposition of Hindi, suggesting that the party’s actions are politically motivated in the lead-up to the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections.

Surya, speaking to the media, argued that the DMK’s rhetoric on these issues should be viewed through the lens of the upcoming elections. He said, "The drama being enacted by the DMK, whether on the issue of delimitation or imposition of Hindi, should be seen through the prism of the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections. It is being done to divert the attention of the people of Tamil Nadu from the real issues of lack of development and rampant corruption under the DMK rule."

His comments come as the DMK has been vocal in its opposition to certain policies of the central government, particularly on the issues of delimitation of constituencies and the use of Hindi in official communication. The DMK has raised concerns that these policies may adversely affect the interests of Tamil Nadu and other southern states.

However, Surya countered these claims, reaffirming the central government's position on the matter. "The Government of India and Home Minister Amit Shah have repeatedly assured the people of the country, especially all the southern states, that no southern state will suffer adversely due to delimitation," he said. He also emphasized that the central government's assurances have been clear and consistent, aiming to allay fears regarding any negative impact on southern states like Tamil Nadu.

Despite these assurances, Surya accused the DMK of attempting to create a sense of fear among the people of Tamil Nadu for political gain. "Despite these repeated assurances, the DMK is only trying to create a sense of fear to gain political benefits in the 2026 elections," he stated. Surya also expressed confidence that the people of Tamil Nadu would see through the DMK's tactics, concluding, "People will reject their agenda."

The issue of delimitation has been a point of contention in several states, with political parties raising concerns about its potential impact on political representation. The central government has maintained that the process will be fair and will not disproportionately affect any particular region or community. However, opposition parties like the DMK have voiced concerns, alleging that it could lead to a reduction in Tamil Nadu’s political power.

As the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections draw closer, these political dynamics are likely to intensify, with the ruling DMK and the opposition parties both gearing up to shape their narratives around issues of regional autonomy, development, and governance. Surya’s remarks are a part of the BJP’s broader strategy to challenge the DMK’s leadership and influence in the state.
