BJP’s Shehzad Poonawalla Slams Congress Over Shashi Tharoor Delegation Row

BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla has sharply criticized the Congress party over its reaction to senior MP Shashi Tharoor being chosen to lead an all-party delegation abroad to represent India’s stand on terrorism.

Speaking to the press, Poonawalla said, “Congress does not trust its own party leaders. Dr. Shashi Tharoor has consistently countered Pakistan’s narrative and championed the idea of ‘India First.’ But instead of supporting him, Congress gave priority to party politics and pushed forward questionable names — even individuals whose election rallies saw slogans like 'Pakistan Zindabad' being raised.”

He further accused the Congress of a “petty and petulant mindset” and praised Tharoor’s statesmanship, adding, “Dr. Tharoor said he is always available to serve the country. This shows he has put IND — India — above INC — the Congress.”

The remarks come amid political friction after Tharoor, known for his diplomatic credentials, was selected to lead a delegation to key partner countries with a strong message of India’s zero-tolerance approach toward terrorism. Some Congress leaders reportedly expressed reservations over the selection.
