Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today addressed a gathering in Delhi, revealing a significant increase in tourism in key border regions of India over the past few years. According to Singh, tourism in Ladakh, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh surged by 30% from 2020 to 2023. Additionally, Kashmir has also experienced a notable rise in tourism in recent years.

Singh attributed the boost in tourism to various initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and promoting these regions as attractive travel destinations. He emphasized that this influx of visitors has led to substantial job creation and has had a positive impact on the local economy.

“The rise in tourism has not only provided new employment opportunities but has also contributed to the economic upliftment of these border areas,” Singh stated. “Economic development in these regions brings about many positive outcomes, including the potential for reverse migration. When local economies thrive, it encourages people to return to their home regions instead of migrating to urban centers.”

The Defence Minister's comments reflect the government’s broader strategy of leveraging tourism as a tool for economic development and stability in border areas. By enhancing tourism infrastructure and promoting these regions, the government aims to create sustainable economic opportunities and foster a sense of security and prosperity among local communities.

The focus on tourism also aligns with ongoing efforts to improve connectivity and amenities in these strategic regions, thereby contributing to national security and regional development. The increased economic activity in these areas is expected to support long-term growth and stability, benefiting both local residents and the broader national economy.
