Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva Criticizes INDIA Alliance Amid Jantar Mantar Protest

  • July 30, 2024, 6 p.m.

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva has launched a scathing attack on the INDIA alliance, specifically targeting the protest organized at Jantar Mantar. His comments, made during a press briefing, centered on allegations of corruption against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and criticized the alliance’s purported aim of shielding him from legal scrutiny.

Sachdeva's remarks came as a response to the INDIA alliance's demonstration, which has been interpreted as a show of solidarity among opposition parties against what they describe as political persecution. The protest was attended by leaders from various coalition members, including the Congress party and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

"A corrupt Chief Minister who is accused in a Rs 100 crore scam, who is accused of taking commission in the liquor policy," Sachdeva asserted, "If the rest of the corrupt parties come together to save a corrupt person, then I don't see anything new in it."

Sachdeva’s statements further targeted the Congress party's involvement in the alliance. He remarked, "In Delhi, the Congress party, which claims to be separate from the alliance, its big leaders are joining hands with AAP. They will keep hugging and slitting each other as per the time."

The BJP President’s criticism underscores the growing tensions between the ruling party and the opposition coalition. The INDIA alliance, which comprises a range of opposition parties including Congress and AAP, has been vocal in its criticism of the current government's actions and legal maneuvers, describing them as politically motivated.

The protest at Jantar Mantar was a focal point for opposition leaders to voice their concerns over the alleged misuse of investigative agencies and the perceived targeting of political opponents. The INDIA alliance argues that such actions are an attempt to stifle dissent and undermine democratic processes.

In contrast, the BJP has consistently defended the actions of its government and institutions, framing the investigations as necessary measures against corruption. Sachdeva’s comments reflect the party's strategy of highlighting alleged corruption among opposition leaders to discredit their efforts.

As the political climate heats up, the ongoing debate over corruption allegations and alliance politics is likely to remain a central issue in Delhi’s political discourse. Both sides are preparing for a series of high-stakes confrontations leading up to the next electoral battle.
