Delhi Court Summons AAP’s Atishi in Defamation Case Filed by BJP Leader

In a significant development, the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has issued a summons to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Minister, Atishi. The court has asked Atishi to appear before it on June 29. The summons is in relation to a defamation case filed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and the party’s state unit media chief, Praveen Shankar Kapoor.

Allegations and Defamation Case

The defamation case has been filed over allegations that Atishi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accused the BJP of attempting to lure AAP MLAs and bribe them to switch parties. These allegations have been termed as unfounded and defamatory by Kapoor.

The court, however, has refused to summon Arvind Kejriwal. The judge stated that it prima facie appears that Atishi has made specific defamatory statements against Kapoor. The judge further added that these statements have been sufficiently published in the electronic media/social media, which may make the right-thinking members of society against Kapoor.

BJP’s Response

In response to the court’s summons, BJP leader and New Delhi Lok Sabha candidate, Bansuri Swaraj, stated that Kejriwal’s tweet on January 27, 2024, is defamatory. She further added that Atishi had reposted it. After the tweet, Delhi BJP had filed a case on January 30.

Bansuri Swaraj emphasized that AAP cannot make defamatory statements against BJP repeatedly and not be accountable. She stated that Atishi will now have to appear before the court to present her side.

Conclusion

This case marks a significant turn of events in the political landscape of Delhi. It remains to be seen how the court proceedings will unfold and what impact it will have on the political dynamics between AAP and BJP.
