New Delhi, April 10, 2026: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has announced a week-long “Heritage Week” programme scheduled from April 13 to April 18, 2026, featuring guided heritage walks at Mehrauli Archaeological Park and Sanjay Van. The initiative aims to promote heritage awareness, eco-tourism, and citizen engagement with Delhi’s historical and ecological landscapes.

The programme is designed to offer participants an immersive experience of the Capital’s layered history through curated trails that combine monuments, ruins, biodiversity, and urban forest ecology.

Heritage and nature trails

Officials said that the walks at Mehrauli Archaeological Park will cover centuries-old structures, including tombs, stepwells, and ruins from the Sultanate, Mughal, and other historical periods. Located near the Qutub complex, the park is home to over 100 heritage structures spread across a vast green landscape.

At Sanjay Van, participants will explore forest trails within the Southern Ridge ecosystem, highlighting its ecological significance as one of Delhi’s key green lungs, along with lesser-known historical remnants found inside the urban forest.

Objective of the initiative

The DDA stated that the “Heritage Week” programme aims to:

Promote awareness of lesser-known heritage sites in Delhi
Encourage eco-tourism and sustainable public engagement
Integrate conservation of monuments with biodiversity awareness
Involve students, researchers, and citizens through guided interpretation

Officials added that such initiatives help reconnect residents with Delhi’s restored heritage spaces and natural ecosystems.

About the sites

Mehrauli Archaeological Park is among Delhi’s most important heritage zones, showcasing nearly a thousand years of continuous history. Sanjay Van, part of the Southern Ridge forest, serves as a vital ecological zone and also contains scattered historical structures.

The DDA has been actively involved in restoration and conservation efforts at both locations in coordination with heritage and environmental agencies.
