Delhi: Former Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi Supports Central Government's Potential Waqf Board Reform

Former Union Minister and BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has expressed strong support for a potential new bill aimed at regulating the powers of the Waqf Board. According to recent media reports, the central government is considering legislation to address concerns surrounding the management and oversight of Waqf assets.

Naqvi, in his statement, underscored the need to reform the Waqf system, arguing that it should no longer be treated as a "touch me not" entity. He asserted that such a mindset is detrimental both to the nation and to the community it serves. Emphasizing the necessity of inclusive reform, Naqvi stated that finding a logical solution to the long-standing issues within the Waqf system would benefit both the Waqf Board and the broader community.

Although Naqvi acknowledged that he was not fully briefed on the specific details of the government’s proposal, he affirmed his belief in the necessity of the reform. He argued that imposing a communal mentality over what should be an inclusive and rational process is counterproductive. Naqvi's comments reflect a broader debate on how to balance religious and communal interests with effective governance and transparency in managing Waqf assets.

The potential legislation has already sparked discussions about the balance between religious autonomy and administrative oversight. As the central government prepares to potentially introduce the bill, it remains to be seen how it will address the issues raised and what impact it will have on the management of Waqf properties.

Stakeholders, including religious leaders and community advocates, are likely to weigh in on the proposed reforms as the legislative process progresses.
