Delhi Govt Expands Solar Subsidies, Launches Anti-Pollution Drive; Infrastructure Upgrades Across States

Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa announced a significant boost to the capital’s solar energy adoption and anti-pollution efforts. Under the PM Surya Ghar Scheme, households installing rooftop solar systems up to 3 kW currently receive a ₹78,000 central subsidy. Now, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has introduced an additional ₹30,000 state subsidy, drastically reducing out-of-pocket expenses for residents.

“Earlier, citizens had to spend ₹90,000 for a 3 kW solar unit. With these subsidies and a loan facility the Delhi government is arranging with banks, families can now install solar without upfront costs,” Sirsa said. He added that even with EMIs, families can save approximately ₹4,200 per month on electricity bills.

In a parallel push to combat air pollution, the Delhi government has approved the deployment of 70 mechanical road sweepers, 210 water sprinklers, and anti-smog guns capable of cleaning trees up to 30 meters high on PWD roads. Recognizing the need across jurisdictions, 250 more sprinklers and anti-smog guns will be allocated for use on Municipal Corporation of Delhi roads.

Meanwhile, in South India, infrastructure development is gaining momentum. A 71-kilometre rail corridor, vital for linking Kerala and Tamil Nadu, is undergoing doubling of its existing single line. Plans for a third track are underway, positioning the corridor as a high-capacity transport artery. It will serve daily commuters and eventually facilitate international trade, enhancing connectivity and regional growth.
