Delhi’s Water Crisis: A Tug of War Between Politics and Basic Needs

New Delhi - The national capital is grappling with a severe water crisis, with several parts of the city parched and the residents yearning for every drop of water. Amidst this dire situation, the Supreme Court’s recent observation on the “tanker mafia” has stirred up a political storm.

BJP Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla questioned the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on its alleged ties with the tanker mafia. “There is one question for Aam Aadmi Party - tanker mafia see aapka rishta kya kehlata hai?” he asked, implying a possible collusion between the ruling party and the water tanker mafia.

Despite the Supreme Court’s stern warning to stop making excuses and blaming others, Poonawalla accused the AAP government of protecting the water tanker mafia instead of taking action against them. “Perhaps the AAP is getting commission on every water tanker. That is why, they are blaming others instead of taking action,” he alleged.

Poonawalla also pointed fingers at the Congress, which is in alliance with AAP under the INDI Alliance. He criticized the AAP for accusing Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh of laxity in water supply, despite the Supreme Court stating otherwise. He urged the Congress to question AAP’s actions. “If Congress has any morality left in them, they will question AAP,” he said.

The BJP spokesperson further added, “The question is - you are sitting in Sheesh Mahal, you are running the government from jail, and people of Delhi are on streets yearning for every drop of water.”

As Delhi continues to battle the water crisis, the political blame game seems to be overshadowing the real issue at hand - the basic human right to clean and safe drinking water. The city’s residents can only hope that their leaders will put aside their differences and work towards a sustainable solution.
