New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar has provided insights into his recent bilateral meeting with Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, emphasizing discussions on crucial issues affecting the India-China relationship.

In a statement to the media, Jaishankar remarked, "...We discussed the state of the relationship which is not normal...two of us have been meeting fairly regularly since 2020 so that the disengagement issue needs to be completed." The meeting focused on the ongoing disengagement process along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), aiming to resolve pending issues and ensure peace and tranquility in the border regions.

Acknowledging the complexities involved, Jaishankar highlighted the importance of respecting the LAC and finding mutually acceptable solutions. "There are some pending outcomes...we have to find a way by which LAC is respected and peace and tranquility are ensured in the border area," he added.

The External Affairs Minister underscored the collaborative approach agreed upon during the meeting. "We both looked at it...what we agreed at the end of it all was we would ask the mechanism, we call it WMCC (Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India–China Border Affairs), which deals with it to convene an early meeting," Jaishankar stated. This mechanism plays a crucial role in facilitating discussions and resolving border-related issues between India and China.

Jaishankar emphasized the need for proactive efforts from both sides to address longstanding concerns. "Both sides need to make a push and find a way by which we can deal with issues that have been pending for some time," he affirmed, highlighting the shared commitment to maintaining stability and promoting bilateral cooperation.

The outcomes of the bilateral meeting between Jaishankar and Wang Yi reflect India's proactive diplomatic efforts to engage with China constructively and resolve contentious issues through dialogue and mutual understanding.
