Elon Musk encourages staff to be prepared for mass layoffs while Twitter is down for some users.

A lot is happening at Twitter headquarters. As Elon Musk prepares to fire nearly 50 percent of his staff later today, Twitter has stopped working for some users. The mobile app works perfectly fine for users, but not the Twitter web platform. The Twitter website is down for some of us at India Today Tech as well. For some people, the website shows, "Something went wrong, but don’t fret—let’s give it another shot." It has been nearly an hour since the Twitter website has been down for users.

outage tracking website DownDetector also shows users raising issues with the Twitter web. Affected users are unable to login to Twitter's web site. The website shows an error at the moment. See the image below.

As per DownDetector, 94 percent of users are reporting issues with the Twitter web, while 6 percent are facing some issues with the mobile app. For us, the Twitter Android and iOS apps are working perfectly fine. The website, though, is facing issues. The page shows an error and nothing else.

Well, a lot is happening on Twitter right now. Elon Musk has sent an email to Twitter employees stating that mass layoffs will be conducted on Friday. The memo states that both affected and non-impacted employees will be informed via email. "In an effort to place Twitter on a healthy path, we will go through the difficult process of reducing our global workforce on Friday." "We recognise that this will impact a number of individuals who have made valuable contributions to Twitter, but this action is unfortunately necessary to ensure the company's success moving forward," the email read.

The company has also asked employees to go back home in case they are on their way to work. "Given the nature of our distributed workforce and our desire to inform impacted individuals as quickly as possible, communications for this process will take place via email." By 9 a.m. PST on Friday, Nov. 4th, everyone will receive an individual email with the subject line, "Your Role at Twitter." "Please check your email, including your spam folder," the email noted.

The mail also stated, "To help ensure the safety of each employee as well as Twitter systems and customer data, our offices will be temporarily closed and all badge access will be suspended." If you are in an office or on your way to an office, please return home.
