In a landmark move to bolster the nation’s coal production capabilities, Hon'ble Minister of Coal, Shri G Kishan Reddy, has issued vesting orders for ten strategically important coal mines. This initiative is set to enhance India’s energy security and stimulate economic growth across Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh.

The newly vested mines comprise one fully explored and nine partially explored sites, with a substantial total geological reserve of 2,395 million tonnes (MT). These mines are projected to generate an annual revenue of Rs. 166.36 crores and attract capital investments totaling Rs. 150 crores. Furthermore, the development of these mines is expected to create approximately 1,352 jobs, both directly and indirectly, contributing to regional employment and economic vitality.

In his keynote address, Shri G Kishan Reddy emphasized the dual focus on increasing coal production and reducing imports. He called on successful bidders to prioritize environmental sustainability and responsible land management practices. Shri Reddy stressed the importance of enhancing green cover, adhering to stringent safety standards, and actively contributing to local community welfare, including healthcare, drinking water, and education. He also highlighted the need for building strong community relationships and ensuring the long-term success of the coal sector through effective environmental conservation.

Shri Satish Chandra Dubey, Minister of State for Coal, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the necessity of integrity and diligence within the sector. He highlighted the importance of sustainable mining practices and the welfare of communities residing near mining operations.

Shri Amrit Lal Meena, Coal Secretary, congratulated the successful bidders and urged them to expedite the operationalization of the coal blocks. He assured them of the Ministry’s full support and stressed the need for innovative approaches to minimize ecological impact while maximizing coal production.

The vesting of these ten mines aligns with the Indian government’s vision of achieving self-reliance in the coal sector, reducing dependency on imports, and ensuring a steady supply of coal to meet the country’s growing energy demands. The development of these mines is expected to drive regional economic growth, support infrastructure development, and enhance community welfare.

The Ministry of Coal remains committed to implementing sustainable and environmentally responsible mining practices. This initiative supports the government’s broader objectives of ensuring energy security, reducing carbon emissions, and promoting sustainable development, contributing to India’s journey towards becoming an Atmanirbhar Bharat in the energy sector.
