New Delhi: The traditional Halwa ceremony, symbolizing the commencement of the final stages of preparing the Union Budget 2024, was conducted today at North Block in Delhi. Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presided over the ceremony, marking the official initiation of the "lock-in" phase in the budget preparation.

The Halwa ceremony, an annual ritual observed by the Ministry of Finance, signifies the onset of a crucial phase where officials involved in budget formulation are secluded from external influences until the budget is presented in Parliament. Minister Sitharaman, along with senior officials and staff, participated in the ceremony, which included the distribution of halwa to mark the occasion.

"In the presence of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the Halwa ceremony was conducted today at North Block, initiating the final stages of preparing Union Budget 2024," stated a Ministry spokesperson, highlighting the significance of this ritual in the budgetary process.

The ceremony underscores the meticulous planning and deliberation involved in drafting the national budget, a document that outlines the government's fiscal policies and allocation of resources across various sectors. It also serves as a ceremonial reminder of the confidentiality and dedication required during this critical phase of financial planning.

"The 'lock-in' process ensures that the budgetary details remain confidential until they are presented in Parliament, maintaining the integrity and transparency of the budgetary process," the spokesperson added, emphasizing the importance of adherence to established protocols in budget preparation.

As the Ministry of Finance embarks on finalizing Union Budget 2024, stakeholders and the public await eagerly for the unveiling of policies and allocations that will shape the country's economic trajectory in the coming fiscal year. The Halwa ceremony, steeped in tradition and symbolism, marks the beginning of an intensive period of deliberation and decision-making crucial to the nation's financial management.
