Highlights of the Coronavirus: 3,116 New COVID-19 Cases in India

India recorded 3,116 new coronavirus infections, the lowest in 676 days, taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,29,90,991, while the active cases dipped to 38,069, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday.

The number of deaths climbed to 5,15,850 with 47 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 0.09 per cent of the total infections and the national COVID-19 recovery rate further improved to 98.71 per cent, the ministry said. A reduction of 2,490 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded as 0.41 per cent while the weekly positivity rate was 0.50 per cent, according to the ministry.

The southern tech hub of Shenzhen told all residents to stay at home as the city struggles to eradicate an Omicron flare-up linked to neighbouring virus-ravaged Hong Kong.The lockdown and a suspension of public transport will last until March 20, a city government notice said, adding that it would launch three rounds of mass testing.

Barack Obama Tests Positive For Covid, Encourages Vaccines

Barack Obama has tested positive for a mild case of COVID-19, the former US president said on his Twitter account Sunday. "I've had a scratchy throat for a couple days, but am feeling fine otherwise," Obama tweeted, adding that his wife, former first lady Michelle Obama, has so far tested negative. "Michelle and I are grateful to be vaccinated and boosted," he wrote. In a one-minute video released last March, Obama, plus fellow former presidents Jimmy Carter, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton, and the former first ladies, appeared together in a one-minute video endorsing the US vaccination campaign and sharing what they missed about pre-pandemic life.

Navi Mumbai Officials From The First Maharashtra City To Achieve Full COVID-19 Vaccination: An official said on Sunday that Navi Mumbai is the first city in Maharashtra to achieve 100 per cent COVID-19 vaccination, with over 11 lakh people getting both doses. Navi Mumbai municipal commissioner and administrator Abhijit Bangar said 111 vaccination centres had been set up to ensure 100 per cent inoculation against COVID-19. "We adopted all methods to ensure every eligible citizen above the age of 18 received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine." All 11,074,454 eligible citizens within the Navi Mumbai limits are now fully vaccinated. I am thankful to the people for their wholehearted participation in this drive," he said. More Than 10 Crore COVID-19 Jabs Administered In Rajasthan: Health Minister Rajasthan Health Minister Parsadi Lal Meena on Sunday said more than 10 crore vaccines against COVID-19 have been administered across the state. He praised the healthcare staff and the public for cooperating with the government in fighting the pandemic.The health minister said so far, 98.4 percent of the people have been administered the first dose of the vaccine and more than 84 percent have been administered both doses.Till Sunday evening, more than 10 crore vaccine doses were administered—9.33 crore jabs to people over 18 years and 53.33 lakh doses to those aged between 15 and 18 years.As many as 13.73 lakh people have also received precautionary doses, making Rajasthan only the sixth state to achieve the feat, the minister said.Further elaborating on the numbers, Meena said 5.06 crore people have been administered the first dose and 4.26 crore people have received both doses.

Mizoram reports 357 COVID-19 Cases A health official said Mizoram'sCOVID-19 tally rose to 2,20,786 on Sunday as 357 people tested positive for the infection, 46 fewer than the previous day. Three more patients have died due to the infection, taking the northeastern state's coronavirus death toll to 671, he said.Mizoram had reported 403 cases and one death on Saturday.The state now has 3,032 active cases, while 2,17,083 people have recovered from the disease so far, including 319 on Sunday, he said.The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients in the state stood at 98.32 percent, while the mortality rate was at 0.30 percent.The state has thus far tested more than 18.64 lakh samples for COVID-19, including 2,003 on Saturday.

Delhi Records 132 Covid Cases; Positivity Rate 0.38% Delhi on Sunday reported 132 fresh COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 0.38 percent, according to data shared by the city health department..The national capital's case count increased to 18,62,934, the latest health bulletin stated. The death count remained unchanged at 26,141. The number of COVID-19 tests conducted the previous day stood at 34,994, the bulletin said.Delhi had on Saturday logged 161 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 0.44 per cent, and one death. On Friday, the city had recorded 174 cases with a positivity rate of 0.45 percent and no deaths.

Mumbai Reports 44 COVID-19 Cases; No Deaths Reported. For the 7th consecutive day Mumbai on Sunday reported 44 COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 10,57,263, while the death count remained unchanged for the seventh consecutive day at 16,692, an official said.  So far, 10,37,342 people have been discharged post recovery, including 46 during the day, leaving the metropolis with an active caseload of 345, he added. With 13,911 samples being examined in the last 24 hours, the number of tests went up to 1,63,87,441, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation data showed. It also revealed that the recovery rate was 98 percent, and the caseload doubled time stood at 13,788 days.

Maharashtra Logs 251 COVID-19 Cases, No Fresh Fatality Maharashtra on Sunday reported 251 COVID-19 cases, taking the state's tally to 78,71,202, while the deaths remained unchanged at 1,43,752 with no fresh fatalities due to the viral infection, an official said. The active tally in Maharashtra stood at 2,524, he added.Pune and Mumbai cities recorded 57 and 44 fresh infections, respectively, while the Pune administrative circle, which also comprises Solapur and Satara districts, added 88 cases to the tally, he said. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region saw 81 new cases during the day. Maharashtra health department data showed that 448 people were discharged during the day, taking the recovery count to 77,20,992, which is 98.09 percent of the overall caseload.

Kerala Reports 885 New COVID-19 Cases Daily COVID-19 cases in Kerala dropped below 1,000 on Sunday with the state recording 885 fresh infections, which raised the total caseload to 65,21,098 in the state. The southern state also reported 15 deaths, which took the total number to 66,808, according to a government release Of the deaths, 2 were reported in the last 24 hours, 4 were those that occurred in the last few days but were not recorded due to late receipt of documents, and 9 were designated as COVID-19 deaths after receiving appeals based on the new guidelines of the Centre and the directions of the Supreme Court, the release said.With 1,554 more people recovering from the virus since Saturday, the total number of recoveries in the state reached 64,446,624 and the active cases dropped to 8,846, the release said.

Andhra Pradesh Reports 57 COVID-19 cases.Andhra Pradesh reported 57 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 84 recoveries, but no deaths on Sunday. The latest bulletin said the number of active cases in the state has now been reduced to 606. It said the total number of positive cases registered so far was 23,18,858, the number of recoveries was 23,03,522, and the death toll was 14,730, it said. Anantapuramu district reported 22 new cases, taking the total active cases to 101. Five districts reported zero cases, and two more logged one each in the last 24 hours.

Coronavirus Live Updates: 86 new COVID cases, 3 deaths in Odisha Odisha recorded 86 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, while three more patients succumbed to the pathogen, the health department said.There are 897 active COVID-19 cases and 163 patients recovered from the previous day. The daily positivity rate was 0.19 percent, and 23 children were among the newly infected, it said, adding that 44,684 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, a bulletin stated.The state logged 83 infections and two fatalities on Saturday. The death toll rose to 9,111 with the fatalities in Sundargarh district. These were confirmed as COVID deaths after an audit.

Coronavirus Live Updates: Fifteen fresh COVID-19 cases in Ladakh Ladakh reported 15 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, taking the overall virus tally to 28,175, officials said.The number of active cases in the union territory dropped to 65 with the recovery of 19 patients in Leh, they said.According to the officials, there were no COVID-related deaths in the region, which has so far recorded 228 fatalities linked to the pandemic since its outbreak.Of the total fatalities, Leh district accounts for the highest 168 deaths among 22,902 cases, followed by 60 in Kargil, which had recorded a total of 5,273 cases.The officials said all the 15 fresh cases were reported in Leh, taking the number of active cases in the district to 65. Kargil has no active COVID-19 cases.
