New Delhi, India - Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent conversation with Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, has sparked a renewed interest in the role of technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in India’s development. During their dialogue, PM Modi emphasized the innovative use of AI in various national initiatives, including the 2023 G20 Summit, where AI played a crucial role in facilitating discussions and decision-making processes.

The Prime Minister also recounted the successful deployment of AI in translating his Hindi speech into Tamil at the Kashi Tamil Sangamam event, showcasing India’s linguistic diversity and technological prowess. Furthermore, he highlighted the NaMo App’s use of AI to create a more interactive and responsive platform for citizens.

In a reflective statement, PM Modi said, “…Historically, during the first and second industrial revolutions we lagged behind because we were a colony. Now, in the midst of a fourth industrial revolution, the digital element is at its core. I am confident that India will gain a lot in this.” This sentiment captures the nation’s determination to not only participate but also lead in the ongoing digital transformation.

Adding a personal touch to the discussion, PM Modi humorously noted, “…AI is very important. Sometimes, I jokingly say that in our country, we call our mother ‘Aai’. Now I say that when a child is born, he says ‘Aai’ as well as AI as children have become so advanced.” This anecdote underscores the deep-seated integration of AI into Indian society, from the cradle onwards.

The meeting between PM Modi and Bill Gates serves as a testament to India’s commitment to harnessing the power of AI and technology for the betterment of its people and the world at large.
