India-Japan 2+2 Foreign-Defence Ministers Meeting Scheduled for August 20 in Delhi

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced that the third round of the India-Japan 2+2 Foreign-Defence Ministers meeting will take place on August 20, 2024, in Delhi. This high-level meeting underscores the strengthening strategic partnership between the two nations.

MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed the details, stating, “The third round of the India-Japan 2+2 Foreign-Defence ministers meeting will be held on the 20th of August, 2024, in Delhi. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will be attending from the Indian side.”

The 2+2 dialogue format, which involves simultaneous discussions between the foreign and defense ministers of the participating countries, aims to enhance strategic cooperation and address key issues in bilateral and regional security. This meeting marks a significant step in deepening the India-Japan strategic partnership, which has been growing in recent years amidst shared interests in regional stability and security.

The Indian delegation will be led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, both of whom are expected to engage in discussions on a range of strategic issues, including defense collaboration, regional security dynamics, and bilateral trade. The Japanese delegation will be headed by Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi and Defence Minister Yasukazu Hamada.

The upcoming meeting is anticipated to focus on enhancing defense ties, improving coordination in the Indo-Pacific region, and exploring new areas of cooperation. The India-Japan strategic partnership has been marked by significant cooperation in areas such as infrastructure development, technology, and regional security, and this meeting is expected to build on these achievements.
