India’s FTAs Are Industry-Backed and Nation-Benefiting: Piyush Goyal

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, on Friday reiterated that all Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) signed under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government are a result of in-depth consultations with domestic stakeholders, ensuring that national interests remain paramount.

Goyal emphasized that each FTA was carefully structured, taking into account both the offensive and defensive interests of Indian industries. “None of our FTAs have drawn criticism from farmers, MSMEs, or domestic manufacturers. In fact, they have only brought benefits,” he stated.

Highlighting the government's strategic approach, Goyal said India seeks trade partnerships with like-minded, friendly nations that prioritize collaboration over competition. “We are not looking for transactional deals. We want long-term, cooperative agreements that strengthen our economy and global presence,” he added.

He also assured that upcoming FTAs would follow the same principles and continue to serve India’s long-term economic and strategic goals, particularly supporting the Make in India initiative and growth of local industries.
