Back spasms prevented India's all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja from playing in the opening Test match against South Africa at the Supersport Park in Centurion. Jadeja reportedly complained of upper back soreness on Tuesday morning, and the team management chose not to take a chance on him for the first Test match of the series on Boxing Day, according to BCCI. "The morning before the game, Ravindra Jadeja complained of upper back spasms. The BCCI stated that he was not eligible to be selected for the first Test.

The degree of Jadeja's injury was not disclosed by the BCCI, but it does not appear to be serious at this time. On Sunday, the all-rounder was observed working on his batting and bowling techniques during an extended session. He appeared to be in no pain at all as he made his way back to the locker room.

Due to Jadeja's injury, Ravichandran Ashwin—the only all-rounder who bowls spin—surprised everyone by being included in India's starting XI. Because of Jadeja's better batting skills, Ashwin—the nation's top-ranked Test bowler—was not India's favored spinner in this particular Test match.

South Africa versus India Live Score, Initial Exam
With 10 wickets at an average of 50 in 7 Tests, Ashwin's record in South Africa is not the finest. However, he would want to disprove his detractors and get closer to the elusive 500.

"Jadeja is not playing because Ashwin had a back and neck spasm in the morning. Ashwin will be useful. At the toss, which South Africa captain Temba Bavuma won, India captain Rohit Sharma remarked, "We all know what a quality bowler he is." Wet areas on the outfield caused a half-hour delay in the start, so he decided to bowl first.

Though he was relieved that he was not the winner, Rohit admitted that he wasn't sure what to do. To be honest, I wasn't sure. It's preferable to lose the toss for situations like this. We know the circumstances; the last time I went here, we achieved a favorable outcome for ourselves. We scored runs, and the bowlers took care of the rest. The surface has some grass on it and there are clouds overhead, but the players know how to deal with it."

The Debut of Prasidh Krishna
India ended their endless wait to win a Test series in South Africa by going in with a four-pronged pace attack. Shardul Thakur was selected as the seam-bowling all-round player, and Prasidh Krishna was given his Test cap.

Prasadh has a bright future, but we must acknowledge that this is only his first Test match. For various reasons, he hasn't got a lot of first-class cricket experience. However, I'm hoping he enjoys himself and has a good game. Before the game, India head coach Vijay Dravid remarked, "It's such a beautiful moment when we give out a new cap to someone."

However, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj would have to handle most of the work. Bumrah is participating in his first Test match following a break of almost a year.

Regarding the South African squad, there were two new players. Due to her inability to recover in time, Lungi Ngidi was granted a respite from the test. As a result, Nandre Burger, a promising young left-arm pacer, was able to make an impact during the white-ball matches against India.

Better David Bedingham was the other new player on the team.

South Africa XI: 1 Dean Elgar, 2 Aiden Markram, 3 Tony de Zorzi, 4 Temba Bavuma (capt), 5 Keegan Petersen, 6 David Bedingham, 7 Kyle Verreynne (wk), 8 Marco Jansen, 9 Gerald Coetzee, 10 Kagiso Rabada, 11 Nandre Burger

India XI: 1 Rohit Sharma (capt), 2 Yashasvi Jaiswal, 3 Shubman Gill, 4 Virat Kohli, 5 Shreyas Iyer, 6 KL Rahul (wk), 7 R Ashwin, 8 Shardul Thakur, 9 Jasprit Bumrah, 10 Mohammed Siraj, 11 Prasidh Krishna
