New Delhi: In a significant step towards strengthening public healthcare services in the capital, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has inaugurated an Advanced Eye Care Centre in East Delhi, aimed at improving access to specialised ophthalmic treatment for residents in the region. The initiative is part of the civic body’s ongoing efforts to expand community-level healthcare infrastructure and deliver affordable specialised medical services closer to people’s homes.

The newly inaugurated centre is expected to provide comprehensive eye care services, including advanced diagnostics, cataract evaluation, vision correction support, and treatment for common and complex eye disorders. Officials said the facility has been designed to reduce patient load on major government hospitals and ensure timely intervention for eye-related health issues.

According to MCD officials, the centre will play a key role in addressing rising cases of vision impairment, age-related eye conditions, and lifestyle-linked eye disorders, which have become increasingly common in urban populations. The facility will also support early detection of eye diseases through regular screening and preventive check-up programmes.

The civic body highlighted that East Delhi, with its dense population, has long required enhanced specialised healthcare facilities. The new eye care centre is expected to fill this gap by offering affordable and quality ophthalmic services under one roof, reducing the need for residents to travel to larger hospitals for routine or specialised eye treatments.

Officials stated that the inauguration of the advanced eye care centre is part of MCD’s broader strategy to strengthen primary and secondary healthcare infrastructure across Delhi. The corporation has been focusing on upgrading dispensaries and local health units to improve accessibility and reduce pressure on tertiary hospitals.

The new facility is also expected to support the civic body’s vision of creating a more decentralised healthcare system, where patients can receive timely diagnosis and treatment at the neighbourhood level. This approach is aimed at improving health outcomes while also reducing waiting times in major hospitals.

Health experts associated with the initiative emphasised the importance of preventive eye care, especially among children, senior citizens, and working professionals exposed to prolonged screen usage. Regular eye examinations, they noted, can help in the early detection of conditions such as cataract, glaucoma, and refractive errors.

The centre will also promote awareness campaigns to educate residents about eye hygiene, digital eye strain, and the importance of periodic vision checks, particularly in urban environments where screen exposure is high.

The inauguration comes at a time when the MCD is actively working to expand healthcare facilities under various urban health programmes. The civic body has been upgrading multiple health centres and introducing specialised units to improve diagnostic capabilities and patient care services across Delhi.

Officials believe that such initiatives will significantly enhance the overall healthcare delivery system in the city, ensuring that specialised medical care is accessible, affordable, and community-driven.

The launch of the Advanced Eye Care Centre in East Delhi marks an important addition to Delhi’s public healthcare network. With a focus on early diagnosis, specialised treatment, and preventive care, the facility is expected to benefit thousands of residents and strengthen the capital’s healthcare infrastructure. The MCD reiterated its commitment to expanding such centres in other parts of the city to ensure equitable access to quality healthcare services for all citizens.
