The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has provided an update regarding Indian nationals currently residing in Bangladesh, with Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal addressing the situation in a recent statement. The MEA has been actively involved in managing the return of Indian citizens from Bangladesh in light of recent developments.

“The External Affairs Minister informed in a statement that there are 19,000 people in Bangladesh, including 9,000 students. The majority of them have come back,” Jaiswal said. He acknowledged that while many Indians have successfully returned, some are still seeking assistance to come back home. “There are Indians who want to come back. Our High Commission is assisting them,” he added.

Jaiswal also addressed concerns about the operational status of airlines and diplomatic staff. “The airlines are operating. Several people have reached out to our commission and high commission,” he noted. This indicates that travel options are available for those looking to return.

Regarding the safety and security of diplomatic personnel, Jaiswal confirmed that non-essential staff and their families have been recalled from Bangladesh. “As far as the staff working in the Indian High Commission are concerned, our non-essential staff and their family members have come back,” he stated. He also mentioned that other embassies have similarly pulled back their non-essential personnel, reflecting a broader trend of precautionary measures taken by various diplomatic missions.

The MEA remains hopeful for a return to normalcy in the region and continues to support Indian nationals in Bangladesh during this period. The situation is being closely monitored, and the ministry is working to ensure the safety and well-being of all affected individuals.
