Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw provided a detailed update on the progress of the AI Mission, particularly regarding the evaluation of AI LLM (Large Language Model) applications and the expansion of GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) facilities for AI research and development.

Speaking about the ongoing evaluation process, Vaishnaw stated, "The evaluation of the AI LLM applications is in its final stage. Within the next few weeks, we should be able to award the first few LLM model teams, which will start getting the funding under the AI Mission." This marks a significant step in India’s efforts to build a robust AI ecosystem, with the first set of funded teams poised to make strides in AI model development.

He also touched upon the expansion of GPU resources, which are critical for AI research and computational tasks. "After the first 14,000 GPUs that we got as part of the AI Mission, the empanelment process for the second tranche is on. We are getting equally good response for the second tranche also," Vaishnaw noted. He emphasized that this expansion means the country's start-up community and AI researchers will soon have access to even larger GPU compute facilities, enabling them to drive innovation and breakthroughs in the field of artificial intelligence.

Vaishnaw also highlighted the growing adoption of AI technologies within the Indian industry. "A large number of industries have started creating AI applications, and many of them have been recognised by the AI Mission," he said, adding, "Now we see a huge adaptation of AI technologies by the industry. That's a very positive thing, and that means that we will be able to get the most productive advantage out of this AI revolution."

The minister's remarks underscore the government’s commitment to advancing AI research, fostering innovation, and ensuring that India remains at the forefront of the global AI revolution. With increased GPU infrastructure and growing industry participation, India is well-positioned to capitalize on AI technologies for future growth and development.
