BJP leader and senior advocate Nalin Kohli has called the impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Varma a matter of “serious public concern” following the discovery of a pile of cash found burning at the judge’s residence. Speaking to the media in Delhi, Kohli emphasized the gravity of the issue and the need for institutional transparency.

“This is a very serious matter to find a pile of money on fire at the house of a sitting judge. Society rightfully expects the whole truth to come out,” he stated. Kohli further highlighted that the then Chief Justice, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, had promptly constituted a committee to collect all facts surrounding the incident and present them before the judiciary.

Laying out the potential legal consequences, Kohli said, “There can be only two things: whether the process should be started against that judge under Article 124 so that he should be removed from office. Secondly, whether there should be an FIR against him or not, because this also raises a question of criminality.”

The case has sparked widespread public and legal discourse, as it touches upon both judicial accountability and criminal conduct at the highest levels of the judiciary.
