National Capital Region Planning Board Unveils Ambitious RRTS Plan for NCR-2032

In a significant move to enhance regional connectivity, the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) has outlined a comprehensive ‘Functional Plan on Transport for NCR-2032’. The plan aims to revolutionize transit infrastructure in the National Capital Region (NCR) by establishing eight Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridors. These corridors are designed to connect key towns and cities across the NCR through a semi-high speed rail-based commuter system.

The eight proposed RRTS corridors are:

  1. Delhi-Gurugram-Rewari-Alwar
  2. Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut
  3. Delhi-Sonipat-Panipat
  4. Delhi-Faridabad-Ballabhgarh-Palwal
  5. Delhi-Bahadurgarh-Rohtak
  6. Delhi-Shahdara-Baraut
  7. Ghaziabad-Khurja
  8. Ghaziabad-Hapur

This ambitious plan is set to significantly improve rail-based connectivity within the NCR, catering to the increasing transportation demands of the region.

The Task Force appointed by the former Planning Commission of India, now known as NITI Aayog, had previously prioritized three of these RRTS corridors for initial implementation:

  1. Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut
  2. Delhi-Gurugram-Alwar
  3. Delhi-Panipat

Of these, the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor, stretching 82.15 kilometers, has already received clearance from the Central Government as of March 2019. This marks a critical step in realizing the broader vision of enhanced connectivity and improved transit infrastructure for the NCR.

Minister of State for Housing & Urban Affairs, Shri Tokhan Sahu, provided this update in a written reply to the Lok Sabha today. The announcement underscores the government's commitment to addressing the growing transportation needs of the NCR and fostering regional development through advanced and efficient transit solutions.
