New Delhi — In his 112th edition of the radio broadcast "Mann Ki Baat," Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strongly advocated for the use of the newly launched National Anti-Narcotics Helpline 'Manas,' emphasizing its importance in India’s fight against drug abuse.

During his address, PM Modi spoke candidly about the pervasive issue of drug addiction, which he noted is a significant concern for families across the nation. “Every family worries that their child might be exposed to drugs,” he said, underscoring the emotional and social impact of substance abuse.

To combat this growing problem, the government has introduced 'Manas,' a dedicated helpline aimed at providing support and guidance to individuals grappling with addiction. The helpline, launched recently, includes a toll-free number—1933—through which people can seek advice on de-addiction, access rehabilitation resources, and report instances of drug trafficking.

“This is a very big step in the fight against drugs,” Modi declared, highlighting the government’s commitment to tackling the issue comprehensively. He urged citizens to utilize the helpline extensively, noting that all information shared through the service would be kept confidential. “All the information shared with Manas will be confidential,” Modi assured.

The MANAS initiative, launched by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on July 18, comprises a multi-faceted approach to addressing drug abuse. It features a toll-free helpline, a dedicated web portal, a mobile app, and integration with the UMANG app, allowing for anonymous 24/7 communication with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). The initiative is designed to provide immediate support and information to those affected by drug addiction and to facilitate the reporting of drug-related activities.

Additionally, the NCB has collaborated with BISAG-N to create the "MAPDRUGS" web portal and mobile app, aimed at combating illicit drug cultivation. This tool provides critical Geographic Information System (GIS) data to help authorities identify and eliminate illegal cultivation sites.

PM Modi’s call to action highlights the government’s proactive stance in addressing drug abuse and its commitment to supporting affected individuals and communities. By promoting the use of 'Manas,' the Prime Minister hopes to mobilize collective efforts towards creating a safer, drug-free environment in India.
