In a recent 90-minute conversation with Newsweek, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his strategic vision for India’s economic growth and development.

Harnessing India’s Demographic Dividend

PM Modi highlighted that India, with a median age of 28 years, has a favourable demography. He expressed commitment to channel this demographic dividend to transform India into a developed country by 2047. He refrained from drawing comparisons with China and Japan, stating that each country faces unique challenges and has unique development models.

Investing in Youth and Future Technologies

The Prime Minister emphasized the focus on developing the full potential of India’s youth and making them resilient and adaptive to future disruptions. He mentioned that a significant amount of money is being allocated to facilitate long-term research in sunrise sectors. India is venturing into areas like space, AI, green energy, semiconductors, and other futuristic technologies.

Economic Growth for Social Mobility

PM Modi stated that the aim of rapid economic growth is to ensure the empowerment of the poor and their social mobility. He proudly shared that India has run the world’s largest poverty-eradication drive in the last 10 years, pulling 250 million people out of poverty. This number is larger than the total population of all but four nations in the world.

Unprecedented Welfare Schemes

As a result of robust economic growth, India has been able to run unprecedented welfare schemes. These schemes have ensured that the poor get 40 million houses, over 100 million clean fuel connections, around 110 million clean water connections, over 110 million toilets, and 500 million people get free health care. Additionally, electricity has been brought to the last remaining 18 thousand villages.

In conclusion, PM Modi’s interaction with Newsweek provides a comprehensive insight into his strategic vision for India’s economic growth and development. His leadership and the economic reforms undertaken by his government have set India on a path towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.
