Prime Minister Modi Hosts Japanese Delegation, Strengthens India-Japan Partnership

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi welcomed Mr. Nukaga Fukushiro, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan, and his delegation, which included members of the Japanese Parliament and prominent business leaders, for a high-level meeting that reaffirmed the deepening ties between India and Japan.

The discussions centered on the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, a framework designed to foster robust bilateral relations. Key topics included enhancing people-to-people cooperation and reinforcing parliamentary exchanges, which have become crucial elements in the partnership's growth.

A significant highlight of the meeting was the progress made towards achieving the ambitious target of a 5 trillion Japanese Yen investment in India for the 2022-27 period. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the current trajectory and explored strategies to further consolidate business and economic ties beyond 2027. The dialogue also covered opportunities to strengthen collaboration in traditional manufacturing, known as monzukuri, and cutting-edge sectors such as semiconductors, electric vehicles (EVs), and green energy.

Mr. Nukaga emphasized the importance of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project, acknowledging its pivotal role in the bilateral partnership. He also proposed the development of a NextGen workforce through training programs in Japanese language, culture, and work practices. According to Mr. Nukaga, these future professionals would serve as vital connectors between the two nations, promoting sustained collaboration.

In response, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the progressive business environment and recent reforms in India aimed at attracting more Japanese investment and technology. He assured the delegation of the Indian government's unwavering support for these initiatives, reinforcing the commitment to deepen the economic and strategic relationship.

The meeting underscored a shared vision for expanding cooperation across various domains, marking a new chapter in the enduring partnership between India and Japan.
