Senior authorities were recently gathered under Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena's chairmanship to discuss the work's status concerning the regularisation of unauthorized colonies in Delhi.

An official statement stated that the purpose of the meeting was to assess the condition of work regarding the regularisation of unapproved colonies and the rehabilitation of slum dwellers under the PM-UDAY and PMAY (Urban) programs, respectively.

The vice chairman (DDA), commissioner (MCD), principal secretary (PWD), and chief secretary were present at the meeting.

Saxena has requested precise deadlines regarding the full implementation of PM-UDAY, PMAY, and the DDA's land pooling policy.

"The Lt Governor was informed that the unresolved issues of unclear unapproved colony borders, continuously extended deadlines, and unpredictability in notified slum clusters had caused the matter to linger for an extended period. Consequently, the Centre developed the PM-UDAY and PMAY Schemes in 2019." Nevertheless, work could not resume in full swing right after because of the COVID-19 pandemic," the release stated.

The Lieutenant Governor has instructed officials to develop a detailed, time-bound plan of action for the unauthorized colonies' registration, verification, and eventual regularisation.

He also emphasized the necessity to make the process of doing the same easy and uncomplicated.

He issued a warning, saying that corruption or neglect in this area would not be accepted. In terms of rehabilitating the slums, the LG instructed the DDA to find alternative locations within a 5-kilometer radius where in situ rehabilitation was legally not possible. Slum dwellers will then be able to live a dignified life in houses or apartments that have already been built under various schemes, the statement stated.

He also gave officials instructions to ensure the full plan was implemented within a month.
