On Monday, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena approved the reinstatement of 1,027 vice-principal positions in the GNCTD Directorate of Education, covering the open positions from 2014–15 to 2019.

According to an official, the action aims to end contractual appointments and ad hocism, frequently tainted by favoritism and a lack of transparency.

According to the L-G office, they would have been eliminated if these positions hadn't been filled within the allotted time. According to another source, the resuscitation of these positions was imperative due to a severe lack of vice principals, who are critical to the efficient operation of educational institutions.

Prior Recruitment Rules (RRs) stated that promotions would be used to fill all vice-principal positions, with a notification in January 2018 amending these RRs.

"Posts except newly created posts, kept in abeyance or remaining vacant for more than two years, would be considered as deemed abolished," an official stated. This was according to a policy of the Union Ministry of Finance.
