Sambit Patra Slams Congress Over Aadhaar-Voter ID Debate, Calls It ‘Double Standards’

New Delhi — Reacting to the Supreme Court's verdict on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, BJP MP Sambit Patra launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing it of hypocrisy over the use of Aadhaar for electoral processes.

“The way the Opposition and the Congress are opposing the Aadhaar card, it clearly shows their double standards,” said Patra. “When Prime Minister Modi spoke in Parliament about using Aadhaar to eliminate middlemen and ensure transparency, the Congress opposed him.”

He pointed out that in 2022, when the government introduced the decision to link Aadhaar with voter ID cards, Congress challenged it in the Supreme Court, arguing that Aadhaar was meant only for identification and not for electoral linkage. “But today, they are saying that voting rights and citizenship should be decided based on Aadhaar. This reflects the double standards of the Congress,” Patra added.

The BJP leader’s remarks come amid ongoing debates around electoral transparency, voter roll cleansing, and data privacy in the democratic process.
