Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday emphasized a transformative approach to agricultural research under the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, stating that research will now be rooted in local needs rather than confined to labs in Delhi.

“Now, research will not be done sitting in Delhi. Demand-driven research will be conducted based on feedback from villages,” Chouhan said, highlighting a major shift toward grassroots-informed agricultural innovation.

He further reiterated the central role of agriculture in India’s progress. “Agriculture remains the backbone of the Indian economy,” he noted, attributing recent growth in the sector to policy reforms by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his long-term vision, and the hard work of Indian farmers.

The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan aims to align national agricultural priorities with local realities, increase productivity, and empower farmers through research, innovation, and government support.
