Tarun Chugh Accuses AAP Leaders of Disrespecting Sikh Traditions at Maghi Mela in Punjab

BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Sunday strongly criticised Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders while addressing a gathering at the Maghi Mela, accusing them of repeatedly using derogatory language against Sikh traditions, Gurus, and religious institutions.

Speaking at the religious congregation, Chugh alleged that there is a deliberate agenda to undermine Sikh values and sentiments. “Whether it is Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann or former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, both are continuously using derogatory language about Sikh traditions and Gurus. An agenda is being pursued,” he said.

Referring specifically to an incident in the national capital, the BJP leader claimed that Atishi made offensive remarks about Sikh Gurus inside the Delhi Legislative Assembly. “Atishi, standing inside the Delhi Legislative Assembly, used offensive language about the Gurus,” Chugh alleged, calling it highly disrespectful and unacceptable.

Turning his focus to Punjab, Chugh accused Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of running a sustained campaign against Sikh religious traditions and institutions. “In Punjab, Bhagwant Mann is continuously running a campaign against the Guru tradition and Gurudwaras,” he said, adding that such actions hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community.

The BJP leader also recalled the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, alleging that they occurred under the leadership and direction of the Gandhi-Nehru family. “The 1984 anti-Sikh riots happened at the behest of the Gandhi-Nehru family,” Chugh said, reiterating the BJP’s long-standing demand for accountability and justice for the victims.

His remarks come amid heightened political tensions between the BJP and the AAP in both Punjab and Delhi, particularly over issues related to religious respect, governance, and political conduct. The statements made at the Maghi Mela are likely to further intensify the political discourse in the run-up to upcoming elections in the region.
