According to environment minister Gopal Rai, the air quality index (AQI) in the nation's capital on Saturday was classified as "severe," prompting the Commission for Air Quality Management to impose restrictions under GRAP III once more in Delhi.

According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi's AQI was 447, falling into the "severe" category.

"For the past few days, Delhi's air quality index has been in the "bad" and "extremely poor" categories. However, as a result of a drop in temperature and a decrease in wind speed, Delhi's air quality has gotten worse, falling into the "severe" category with an AQI of 400. Rai stated during a press conference that "as a result, the CAQM has once again imposed restrictions under GRAP III."

A zero to fifty Air Quality Index (AQI) is regarded "good," 51 to 100 "satisfactory," 101 to 200 "moderate," 201 to 300 "poor," 301 to 400 "very poor," 401 to 450 "severe," and 450 and above "severe-plus."

In response to the region's worsening air quality index, the Center on Friday issued an order prohibiting non-essential construction work and the use of four-wheelers powered by BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel. The primary reasons for this abrupt increase in Delhi's daily average AQI are unfavorable weather, such as fog and haze combined with low wind speeds, according to the CAQM, a statutory organization in charge of developing plans to reduce pollution in the area. Recalling restrictions under Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage-III, the CAQM mandated that non-essential building, stone crushing, and mining be prohibited in Delhi-NCR.

In Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Budh Nagar, there are further limitations on the operation of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers under GRAP Stage-III.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that the city's minimum temperature was 9.6 degrees Celsius, two degrees over the season's normal.
There will be mild fog during the day, according to the IMD. According to the report, the highest temperature would probably reach 23 degrees Celsius.
At 8.30 am, the relative humidity was 97%.
