Union Health Minister JP Nadda, alongside Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel, today launched the National Medical Register, a significant initiative under the National Medical Commission (NMC). The launch event, held at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, marks a crucial step in enhancing the transparency and efficiency of medical regulation in India.

The National Medical Register is designed to provide a comprehensive and centralized database of registered medical practitioners across the country. This new platform aims to streamline the registration process, ensure compliance with medical standards, and facilitate easier access to information for both healthcare professionals and the public.

In his address during the launch, Nadda highlighted the register's potential to improve the quality of medical services and strengthen the regulatory framework. “The National Medical Register will serve as a pivotal tool in maintaining the highest standards of medical practice in India. By centralizing and digitizing medical registration, we are enhancing transparency, accountability, and accessibility within the healthcare sector,” Nadda said.

Minister of State Anupriya Patel echoed Nadda's sentiments, emphasizing the register's role in supporting the National Medical Commission’s mission to ensure effective regulation of medical education and practice. “This initiative is a testament to our commitment to improving healthcare delivery and governance. The National Medical Register will facilitate better monitoring and management of medical professionals, ensuring that they meet the required standards and are well-regulated,” Patel stated.

The launch of the register is part of the broader reforms introduced by the National Medical Commission Act, which aims to overhaul medical education and practice standards in India. The NMC, established in 2019, is responsible for regulating medical education, ensuring the quality of medical practice, and safeguarding public health.

The National Medical Register will be accessible online, providing a user-friendly interface for checking the credentials of medical practitioners, verifying their registration status, and obtaining other relevant information. This move is expected to bolster public trust in the medical profession and enhance the overall effectiveness of healthcare administration in the country.

Today's launch marks a significant advancement in India's efforts to modernize its healthcare regulatory framework and improve the delivery of medical services across the nation.
