Union Home Minister Amit Shah today inaugurated the revamped Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) portal, marking a major step in enhancing digital services for the Indian diaspora. The launch took place in New Delhi and was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

The new portal aims to address various challenges faced by OCI cardholders in recent years. According to the MHA, the initiative stems from extensive feedback collected from OCI stakeholders as well as the need to integrate modern technology for better service delivery.

“In light of significant technological advancements over the past decade and feedback received from OCI cardholders, a new OCI portal has been developed to address existing shortcomings and enhance the user experience,” the MHA said in a statement.

The revamped portal offers a more intuitive interface, faster processing, better document management, and improved communication features for users. It will also allow for seamless updates, registration, and tracking of OCI-related services. Officials emphasized that the move aligns with the government’s broader vision of “Minimum Government, Maximum Governance.”

Amit Shah stated that the platform reflects the Centre’s commitment to strengthening ties with the global Indian community. He added that the portal would further simplify the process for OCI applications and updates, ensuring transparency and efficiency.

With millions of OCI cardholders worldwide, the portal is expected to significantly improve engagement between India and its overseas citizens.
