Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday emphasized the Modi government’s strong focus on promoting sports over the past decade. Speaking at an event, Shah said that India’s sports budget has been increased fivefold in the last 10 years, reflecting the Centre’s commitment to nurturing athletic talent across the country.

Highlighting the long-term vision, he stated, “The government is systematically preparing for the 2036 Olympic Games. A comprehensive, structured plan is being developed to ensure India’s athletes perform at the highest level on the global stage.”

As part of this initiative, the government is providing a monthly assistance of ₹50,000 to nearly 3,000 sportspersons, aimed at helping them train without financial burden. This support includes access to modern training facilities, coaching, nutrition, and international exposure.

The government’s sports development strategy is not limited to elite athletes, but also includes grassroots programs to identify and develop talent from every corner of the country.
