Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced a significant new initiative aimed at enhancing farmers' income through improved horticultural practices. At a press conference today, Vaishnaw introduced the "Clean Plant Programme," a strategic effort designed to address key challenges in horticulture and boost productivity.

"Horticulture can provide a substantial source of income to farmers," Vaishnaw said. "However, one of the biggest problems faced has been issues of viruses in plants, which significantly reduce productivity."

To tackle these challenges, the Clean Plant Programme will focus on transforming nine institutions into specialized Clean Plant Centres. These centres will play a crucial role in ensuring the production of disease-free planting materials. Additionally, 75 nurseries will be established to facilitate the replication of clean mother planting material, further supporting the program’s goals.

The initiative aims to provide farmers with high-quality, virus-free plants that are expected to improve crop yields and overall profitability. By addressing the common issues that have previously hindered horticultural productivity, the programme seeks to create a more sustainable and profitable agricultural sector.

Vaishnaw’s announcement is seen as a major step forward in agricultural reform, highlighting the government’s commitment to supporting farmers and enhancing the horticulture industry. The Clean Plant Programme is anticipated to have a transformative impact, offering farmers better resources and tools to maximize their agricultural output.

The initiative has garnered positive feedback from agricultural experts and farmer organizations, who view it as a progressive move towards solving persistent issues in plant cultivation. The government’s focus on clean plant technology is expected to contribute significantly to the economic well-being of the farming community and the overall growth of the horticultural sector.
