Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu strongly reacted to the alleged detention of Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) Chairman at Nangal, calling it a serious matter that endangers national security. Speaking in Delhi, Bittu demanded that an FIR be registered against Punjab minister Harjot Singh Bains and even called for a case of treason against both Bains and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

“An FIR should be filed against Punjab minister Harjot Singh Bains and a case of treason should also be registered because he has locked an Indian citizen (BBMB chairman) inside,” Bittu said. He added that the issue is already under judicial review and the court has given its verdict, yet the state government continues to create unnecessary drama.

Bittu stressed the importance of the Bhakra dam’s security, warning that it is a potential target and must be protected with utmost seriousness. “The security of the dam is very important and Pakistan can attack it anytime... BBMB chairman had gone there to review the security of the dam,” he stated.

The Union Minister’s comments reflect the rising political tension between the Centre and the Punjab state government, especially over control and management of crucial infrastructure like the BBMB. The matter is likely to gain more attention as it touches both administrative conduct and national security concerns.
